What is in Your Temple?

Sacred heart

And as he taught them, he said, "Is it not written: "'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations'? But you have made it 'a den of robbers.'" (Mark 11:17 N.I.V)

Jesus was angry with the money changers and merchants who used God’s house of worship as a place for doing business at exorbitant prices and exchange rates. He drove the merchants out and overturned their tables. They had also set up their stands at a special court meant for Gentiles, hence frustrating their wishes to worship God freely.

What is happening at your church? Could it be called a house of prayer for all nations? Does everyone feel welcome no matter who they are, how old or young they are, where they come from, or how big their purse is? Is there anything there that is likely to stumble them?

What about your body, the temple of the Lord? Does the Lord feel like taking a whip to all the greed and rot in you? Is the temple full of acts of the flesh such as: “sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like”? (Galatians 5:19-20)  Or, is it full of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control”? (Galatians 5:22-23)

Have your heart right with Christ, and he will visit you often, and so turn weekdays into Sundays, meals into sacraments, homes into temples, and earth into heaven.”  Charles H. Spurgeon
