Undaunted

Noah's ark cartoon

The waters will not overwhelm you

“But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded” (Genesis 8:1 N.I.V)

Sometimes we do not know how to cope in our circumstances. They overwhelm us. Let us be encouraged by Noah who had faith in the word of God. It is said that it had not rained before so people could not visualize how God would destroy the world that way. They laughed at Noah. Noah was building a big monstrosity that no one had seen before. This must have made the people laugh all the more. It is only in recent times that such a ship has been seen. But following God’s instructions, Noah built what was beyond the technology of the day; maybe some of the Ark’s features may still be beyond today’s technology.

The word of the Lord is undaunted: like the Ark Noah built; for a whole year, the storms raged, the hills and mountains crumbled, everything else on earth was destroyed, but it floated strong and impervious with its heavy load of Noah, his family, all the animals and provisions, because it was built to God’s specifications. Only those in the ark could be saved.

What the Lord promises he will do. It may take a long time. It may take unconventional means. Noah waited for one hundred and twenty years but he trusted the Lord, and walked closely with him. The storms came. He could not escape that experience just like everybody else. But God is faithful and carried him safely through it. We may not escape the storms of life but God cares for us and will carry us through the trouble if we only trust and obey and rest on his word. Keep on walking even amid the jeers, amid the temporary setbacks. One day, God will cause the waters to recede and you can come out to the dry ground.
