The Place of Work in God's Creation

Gardening

"The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it". Genesis 2:15 NIV

Our bodies are made for work. Work was part of God’s original plan for mankind even before Adam and Eve sinned. They must have worked hard with sincerity and joy in obedience to their Creator: maintaining the productivity and beauty of Garden of Eden.  Through the challenge, discipline and stimulation of their work, they grew in strength physically and spiritually: understanding more about themselves and God.  Work only became burdensome after Adam and Eve sinned. “…Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.E)"> It will produce thorns and thistles for you and you will eat the plants of the field.” Sweat, stress, frustration and boredom became part and parcel of their lives. But we can recapture the spirit of work in Eden by seeking to work at whatever we do no matter how humble or difficult, as an expression of our love for the Lord. This way we can use our work deepen our relationship with God.
