Kindness is Contagious

Good Samaritan

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity”. Proverbs 17:17 (N.I.V)

The Bible says, It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). We are meant to take care of one another at all times and especially in times of adversity. Acts of kindness make us feel good; it releases endorphins- feel good hormones. “When you carry out acts of kindness you get a wonderful feeling inside. It is as though something inside your body responds and says, yes, this is how I ought to feel(Rabbi Harold Kushner). God blesses the kind, and other people also respond in kind: Give and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap.  For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return”. (Luke 6:38). The generous person will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.” (Proverbs 11:25)

Apart from the good feel factor and expectation to receive, watching or hearing about other people’s act of kindness has the added benefit of being contagious. When you first read or heard the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:29-37) did it not make you feel motivated to help others? We learn by example. Let us set a good example of showing kindness to others and others will do the same. And we will make the world into a kinder place.

“Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” Scott Adams
