Cain’s descendants were truly remarkable in the ways of the world. They built cities, excelled in arts like music and poetry, and forged advanced iron and bronze implements. They excelled in power, riches, making merry, and all the embellishments of life but no mention of God is made as part of all these achievements. They were the first to break the law of marriage by practicing polygamy, and bragged about murder and the cruelty with which they enacted revenge.

Where does your sense of security, pride, and significance come from? Is it in your work, your riches or even wives? As opposed to Seth’s descendants who were their contemporaries, the Bible does not give any record of how long Cain and his descendants lived.  Their years were wasted and did not count for eternity. Do not be consumed by your work and worldly pursuits. Let your life count by walking with God and leading others to him.
