Actions Speak Louder than Words

Actions Speak Louder than words

Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” (James 2:15-16 N.I.V)

Last week when one of our church members died, the family said they were holding a very simple funeral for her. It was obvious that they would have preferred a more elaborate ceremony including a church service. However money was a problem.

Everybody chipped in as is usual for such occasions in our church and we were able to give her a wonderful send off. The choir of which she had been a member sang beautifully. And the Woman’s Guild of which she had also been a member gave her a guard of honor, in full uniform, with each holding a rose. It was quite emotional. But best of all, a lot of her neighbors, friends and relatives came and I am sure whatever our church had done ministered greatly to them. I pray that some will start coming to our church, or at least join a church somewhere with the full realization that Christ takes care of his own.

God gives us opportunities to demonstrate our faith in actions. It inspires others to believe in Christ: for the best preaching may not even require any words. May the Lord in his mercy fill the gap that she left in her family and may those in a similar situation also get a hand of hope when they need it most.
