Doing things a new way

A way in the desrt

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland”. (Isaiah 43:19 NIV)

The lyrics of a popular song go like this,“Hallelujah, his blood avails for me! I once was lost, but now I am found, Was blind but now I see …”

Many people just follow the opinion of their contemporaries without much thought as to whether they are doing the right things or whether there is a better way of doing things. They do not dare to do things differently because they might attract the condemnation of others, or fail. They prefer to rest in their comfort zones. In Acts 26:18 we are told to open our eyes and turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, so that we may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in the Lord. We cannot do this while doing things the old way. There has to be a paradigm shift where we are able to perceive things in a radically different way. If we are to grow in the Lord we have to be led by the Spirit into places which are new and probably uncomfortable at first. We have to consider the virtue in everything we do and not what others think. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. There is a better way: God's way, and the greatest comfort is in knowing Him.

Too often we... enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought. John F. Kennedy
