A Wasted Life

Ruins

Ruins

“If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames”. (1 Corinthians 3:14-15 N.I.V)

Lot was a righteous man who was distressed by the lives of lawless men he lived with. Day by day he was tormented in his righteous Soul by the deeds he saw and heard (2 Peter 2:7-8). He was unable to influence anyone, not even his wife and family to accept his faith in God The corruption surrounding them had seeped through every fiber of their lives. But he loved the city life, the comfort and the high position he had acquired at the city gate. In the end when God rained burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot lost all he had worked for. He barely escaped with his life. He was in fact reluctant to leave when given a chance to do so, and he and his family had to be led out firmly by an angel.

Beware of seeking the companionship of those who you are unequally yoked. You may never be able to influence them. You will suffer great losses and though the Lord in his grace will give you a reward for righteousness, you will have missed opportunities for fruitfulness. Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14)

"The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best". Epictetus
