The Place to Connect with God’s Blessings

Sun shining over the hills

“Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God“ (Psalm 146.5 N.I.V)

Sarai gave her servant Hagar to her husband so that she could build a family through her. But after Hagar became pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. She no longer felt like a servant and wanted the position belonging to her mistress. But Abram the father of her child sided with his wife Sarai and allowed his wife to mistreat her. Hagar in desperation ran away intending to go back to her country Egypt. But the Lord stopped her and asked her to go back to Abraham’s household. Due to Abraham’s faith, his house was a place to connect with God’s blessings.  God had promised Abraham,” I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."  So the angel of the Lord told Hagar, “Go back to your mistress and submit to her.” The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.” (Genesis 16:9-10). Hagar wanted to go back to a place where they did not know God and worshiped idols. It was therefore wise for her to submit to her mistress in Abraham’s house, rather than going further astray from God’s protection and his promises.

How about you? Do you have some troubles you think you can resolve outside of God’s word? Going back to”Egypt” will not help you. The place to connect with everlasting blessings is Abraham’s house, he that is the forefather of Jacob and Jesus:  the Promised Seed through whom all blessings flow. Those who hope in him will never be disappointed. He will help them overcome all that they have to in this world.

“The Bible is one of the greatest blessings bestowed by God on the children of men. It has God for its author; salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture for its matter. It is all pure”. John Locke
