God is Concerned about the Essence of our Worship

cross s

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks”. (John 4:23 N.I.V)

True worship is not about singing, praying, or listening to sermons. It is the attitude that matters. You can do all these when your heart is far from God. Your prayers could be hypocritical like that of the Pharisees. The singing can be more for your own enjoyment rather than a sacrifice of praise to the Lord. You may not really be listening to the Holy Spirit talking to you through the word. As David said, what God requires is a broken and contrite heart,” The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God”. Psalm 51:17. God requires people who reciprocate his love for him; people whose worship recognizes how much they have been  forgiven and the cost of such forgiveness; people who are obedient to God and fully dependent on him, people who are humble and realize that they are nothing without him; people who are not self righteous and self sufficient.

True worship is not external. The rites and ceremonies in various churches are not sufficient unless they involve the heart, soul and mind; unless they induce a genuine spiritual experience.
