Ensuring a good inheritance

Greed

“Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." (Luke 12:13 N.I.V)

Fighting for inheritance pits many family members against one another and many even kill for it.

What is your attitude towards wealth? Is it the most important thing you pursue? Apparently it was for the man who interrupted Jesus as he taught about the Holy Spirit. The man was only concerned about getting his share of worldly treasures and was banking on Jesus using his authority to ensure that he got what he wanted. Jesus interpreted this as greed. He gave a parable of the rich fool who harvested so much that he thought that he could now eat, drink and be merry without any worry about tomorrow. However, God demanded his life that very night. The man had forgotten to lay any treasures in heaven by refusing to acknowledge God in his life.

Yes, you should get your rightful worldly inheritance, but you would be better off if you lost it and gained eternal life. Being right with God should be your number one priority. Do not let greed rule your life.

“Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.” - Erich Fromm
