A time to Work and a time for Leisure

Beach

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1 K.J.V)

With all the Christmas and New Year festivities behind us, it is now time for work. King Solomon advised that we should find enjoyment in eating, drinking and work. “A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. (Ecclesiastes 2: 24-25). Resting is good because it gives us time to reflect and gain wisdom. “The happiest people are those who think the most interesting thoughts. Those who decide to use leisure as a means of mental development, who love good music, good books, good pictures, good company, good conversation, are the happiest people in the world. And they are not only happy in themselves; they are the cause of happiness in others.” William Lyon Phelps

But as good as leisure is, no one was sent to the world to be idle. Your main objective should not be to seek pleasure and entertainment all the time otherwise you become bored. Man was made to work. Even before he sinned, “The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Genesis 2:15.

“Work is a blessing. God has so arranged the world that work is necessary, and He gives us hands and strength to do it. The enjoyment of leisure would be nothing if we had only leisure. It is the joy of work well done that enables us to enjoy rest, just as it is the experiences of hunger and thirst that make food and drink such pleasures.”  Elisabeth Elliot.
