Treading Safely into the Unknown

Footsteps

"You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light". (Psalm 18:28 NIV)

One reason why people do not better themselves is the fear of the unknown. When confronted with unfamiliar situations they are afraid to get out of their comfort zones and chart out new ground.  They are afraid to leave their low paying job which seems secure or negotiate their abusive relationships for fear of being alone and isolated. They lose a lot of opportunities to better themselves and experience more. Often, fears are unfounded and not based on real risk. We need to confront our fears by analyzing the real risks and taking steps to militate against them. Taking action reduces fear by breaking the tendency of dwelling on the worst case scenario which might never happen.

We do not know what the New Year has in store for us but let us stride each day with confidence and optimism that whatever adversity comes we will have the ability to conquer it. Let us trust in the love, leadership and might of our Lord . Worry does not change the outcome but it spoils enjoyment of the present.

I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year, “Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown”. And he replied, “Go out into the darkness and put your hand in the Hand of God. That shall be to you better and safer than any known light” M. L. Karkins

May our Lord light your way paths in the coming year!
