The Day Star That Is A More Sure Word Of Prophesy

By Wangari Murathe

Day Star

“Where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.” (Matthew 2:2 N.I.V)

Stars are fascinating and a shining star leading wise men to where the King, Christ was born catches most people’s imagination.

Genesis 1:14 says, And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years”.

When Jesus was born the Jew’s expectation of the imminent birth of a king was prevalent. This Bible scholars tell us, could be due to the interpretation of Daniel’s prophesy “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. (Daniel 9:25).

According to this prophesy, the birth would happen 490 years after the rebuilding of the Temple. And that is when the Savior Jesus was born. The Jews expected this king to crush all their enemies “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the sons of Sheth” (Numbers 24:17). So when they saw this sign in the heavens the wise men must have been convinced and decided to find where this king was.

So what should we make of divination using stars and other heavenly bodies?

One thing for sure is that such divination has been misused by false prophets, and others such as sorcerers, leading people to worship and look up to stars to guide them other than God. We are therefore warned,” Let no one be found among you who … practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft...” ( Deuteronomy 18:10).

But, what then of signs of end times mentioned in the Bible? Shouldn’t we be able to translate them and know when the end of the world will come? Jesus said, "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father”. Mark 13:32 .

We know that what the Bible says will come to pass and those that are in the world will behold all the mentioned signs, but it is not that important to know when it will happen exactly. What is critical is being always ready for the second coming of Christ; pursuing obedience and righteousness at all times. That way we do not need to fear the signs of the heavens, but rather await the Lord with gladness. “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 2 Pet 1:19.”

Christ is the day star that banishes all darkness.

Do you have the star that is the spirit of Christ in you?

It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves”. William Shakespeare
