Ho-Ho-Ho!
by Pam Ford Davis

Merry Christmas
People of our time are losing the power of celebration. Instead of celebrating we seek to be amused or entertained. Celebration is an active state, an act of expressing reverence or appreciation. To be entertained is a passive state--it is to receive pleasure afforded by an amusing act or a spectacle.... Celebration is a confrontation, giving attention to the transcendent meaning of one's actions. Abraham Joshua Heschel

Ho-Ho-Ho!

Turn up your hearing aids. It is not Ho-Ho-Ho-Santa, you hear.

It's Ho-Ho-Ho-Hosanna, Mary's song of praise and worship to her Lord.

Sing along, in adoration and awe.

"And Mary said: 'My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant (Luke 1:46-48a NIV)."

In humility, Mary had submitted to God. "I am the Lord's servant, Mary answered. May it be to me as you have said (Luke 1:38a NIV)." Sing it out. Ho-Ho-Ho-Hosanna!
