Forming alliances contrary to the Spirit

Handshake

"What sorrow awaits my rebellious children," says the LORD. "You make plans that are contrary to mine. You make alliances not directed by my Spirit, thus piling up your sins. (Isaiah 30:1 N.L.T)

Many people lives are spent affirming other people’s ideas and notions rather than their own ideals.  This is especially so in politics where the politicians use the power of fear to control the populace. The exaggerate facts and manufacture lies that rend them into saviors. The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.H. L. Mencken.   People end up putting too much hope in individuals who”… are rebels, companions of thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow's case does not come before them”. Isaiah 1:23

Sometimes it suits those “saviors” to combine and form alliances with those they deem will protect and further their interests against strong opponents.  These alliances are always shifting in the struggle for higher gain, and they expect those they lead to fall into line. What should you do? Bear in mind that such alliances can breed impunity where ethics and values are compromised. When power is gained, there will be some untouchables whose vices will be overlooked.  Should your principles be sacrificed in such supremacy struggles?  You must associate with the good; people with high moral integrity. You must together purpose to develop the internal capability of the people so that the country stands on principles and not personalities. Remember, fear of the Assyrians drove Israel to make a pact with the Egyptians (whom they considered a lesser enemy), all to no avail. They were defeated. Their best bet was to depend on God’s help and guidance; just as it is ours. Let us make alliances directed by the Spirit.
