Taking Just Possession

“Take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess”. (Numbers 33:53 N.I.V)

In order to take full possession of Canaan, the people of Israel they needed to completely rout the Canaanites from the land so as not to be contaminated by their wicked ways. They only partially did so, and they therefore left themselves open to the temptation of idolatry and other evil ways.

We are similarly required to take full possession of what we are justly entitled to; our home, our marriages, our businesses, our country, our faith and convictions and all God has promised.  We need to take care that we claim full possession and rout all threats, all evil influences. We have to come out authoritatively, and fearlessly take responsibility over our every situation and not allow our peaceful enjoyment to be destroyed. We dare not let the values of the world restrict and overwhelm us because we know what is true and right and just.
