When Your Side Loses an Election

Polar Bears Sparring

“And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord”. Isaiah 11:2 ESV

Politics is a very emotive subject and often pitches people into two extreme positions, each feeling that their candidate is best and wondering why others cannot see it. And after exercising one’s right to vote only one candidate wins. What do you do when the candidate you feel so negatively about especially due to his stand on some issues, wins?

You need to pick yourself up from your disappointment, try to understand why other people think as they do and act respectively and graciously within the law. You will still continue living in the same country and need to accept diverse opinions and the fact that you could be wrong. Let the “Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord” guide you in all circumstances.

You need to pray over the situation because God still remains God and he is in charge. “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” (Romans 13:1). God also has the power to change whoever has been elected and use him to achieve his purposes.
