Grace in the face of negative criticism

Escaping Criticism

Escaping Critciism

“But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge--to the great amazement of the governor“(Matthew 27:14 N.I.V)

Criticism can sometimes be vicious and hard to take. But whatever you work at, there will always be negative critics. Some people do it out of jealousy and inferiority complex. They want to put you down because they feel threatened by your success. They want to win a quick victory over you. Do not let them. It is always the mark of a superior person to accept criticism gracefully without lashing back or being defensive. A calm, controlled demeanor is always a good thing to cultivate. It keeps you collected so that you can find constructive ways to reply and to improve yourself.

Jesus’ critics included his own family, friends, and the religious and political leaders. Among many things they criticized was his claim of divinity, and refusal to adhere to Mosaic laws such as the ritual washing of hands and keeping the Sabbath. His own family criticized his frame of mind. “When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, "He is out of his mind." Mark 3:21.

Jesus was always calm when responding to all his critics. From various incidences in the Gospels, Jesus calmly explained, withdrew, walked away, escaped, told parables, or did not answer. His answers left them silent and pondering. “No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.” Matthew 22:46

You can also turn instances of negative criticism to opportunities to glorify God’s name.
