Victory Belongs to the Lord

Hippo fight

“It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them.” Psalm 44:3 (NIV)

The Lord is concerned about the principles we fight for. Some leaders have so many hidden designs and agendas, some borne out of ill will for others.  They smile and play act and we are convinced. We cannot always determine their duplicity, but God can. They can make their plans but at the end of the day, the outcome is in God’s control. Man proposes. God disposes.  “We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps”. Proverbs 16:9.   Since God directs everything on earth, the way to be on his side is to keep up in prayer. In Exodus 17: 10-17 is the vivid story of how the people of Israel defeated the Amalakites.  Moses stood at the top of the hill “with the staff of God “in his hands while Joshua and his chosen men fought the Amalakites with their swords. Victory could only be achieved with the staff lifted up high, so Aaron and Hur had to support Moses’ hands so that they remained steady.  The Lord told Moses to be sure to tell Moses how the victory was won, lest he be deluded that it was his might. Let us always hold up high the staff of the Lord- Our banner and make every battle we fight, his battle.

“Sometimes the prize is not worth the costs. The means by which we achieve victory are as important as the victory itself.” ― Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings
