Looking for Recognition and Significance

Tower of Babel

“He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD." (Genesis 10:9 N.I.V)

Nimrod must have had a lot of courage, strength and determination. It is said he started off as a hunter of wild animals which had become too numerous, and gradually became a commander and trainer of others; first in hunting and then in forceful invasion of other people’s rights and properties.  Through the use of force and violence he built a great empire which worshiped idols. He led the people of Babel to build a city with a high tower reaching out to heaven in rebellion against God’s express command that they fill and spread over all the earth.  They said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth." (Genesis 11:14)

What “Tower of Babel” (monument of pride) are you building to proclaim your abilities and achievements so that you will not be forgotten? You cannot frustrate God’s plans. Make sure that the spirit of your plans is aligned with God’s divine will otherwise he will scatter them. You might become a mighty hunter and warrior; but these have no eternal value. God’s harsh judgment is inevitable for all who are keen for self aggrandizement. Why would you want to become a mighty ruthless hunter in this world when you could become a gentle prince or princess in heaven?

Pride is an admission of weakness; it secretly fears all competition and dreads all rivals. - Sheen, Fulton John
