How to Choose the Right Political Candidate

Knowledge according to Plato

Seek to know the truth

“Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” ~ Jeremiah 29:7

The basic role of any government is to defend lives, liberty, and property of the people; to ensure peace and prosperity. You need to rise above the hype and soberly gather facts about each candidate and decide on who is likely to promote peace and prosperity for all.

You need to consider which candidate is peaceable and respecting of all regardless of their station in life. What is his/her stance on a wide variety of subjects including poverty, marriage, health, disability, education and so on? Do not let one narrow issue polarize you. Think about the welfare of others, not just what is likely to benefit you as a person. Keep the peace and do not make enemies of those with different opinions.

At the end of the day nobody is perfect and the election of those you prefer will not ensure that they keep their promises. Power can corrupt. We need to pray each step of the way for God’s guidance so that he gives the right person. We need to pray for each candidate; even those we are strongly against so that they are guided by peace and do not spread hatred and division. We were given the right to make choices by God. Let us make them wisely.
