Lighting the World

Candle light

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14 (N.I.V)

During the very first day of creation God created light so that it could remove the prevailing darkness, support life, and mark time.

Jesus is the light of the world. You can only be the light if you are connected to him. He is also the word. If you do not have the word within you, you cannot know his ways and become the light. ”For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ” 2 Corinthians 4:6

There are several things you need to develop in order to become the light of the world.

You have to care enough about others to want to be involved in their lives. You have to speak out when necessary to support the right way. You have to be strong in the Lord to stand by what you believe in, no matter the popular opinions. You have to keep connected to God through prayer and his Word. You have to connect other people to the light. You have got to get up and dust yourself any time you trip and not wallow in the mire of darkness.  Note, “Light gives of itself freely, filling all available space.  It does not seek anything in return; it asks not whether you are friend or foe.  It gives of itself and is not thereby diminished (Michael Strassfeld).

The hero is the one who kindles a great light in the world, who sets up blazing torches in the dark streets of life for men to see by.  The saint is the man who walks through the dark paths of the world, himself a light.  ~Felix Adler
