Delegating as only Jesus could: the Great Commission

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19 (N.I.V)

Jesus'  ministry on earth lasted about three and a half years. During this time he modeled the way we should live and teach others. The he died for our sins. This is something only he could do. Upon resurrection he delegated the teaching work he had been carrying out to his disciples; which includes me and you. He had already prepared his disciples for this and their capability was reinforced by the Holy spirit who came to dwell in them. He had to go to heaven to become the perfect high priest: to mediate between God and man. A task only he could undertake. This story of Jesus reinforced an important rule of delegation as quoted from Dawson Trotman, “Never do anything of importance that others can do or will do when there is so much of importance to do that others cannot do or will not do.” Jesus had the authority and power from God which he delegated to us. But at all times the authority and power rests with God. Let us always keep in mind this work as our priority and also assign the same to others who come to the faith. This is also important advice for every leader. You need to be focused on where you can uniquely add value, and let other people take up everything else.
