Wisdom Knows the Will of God

The Thinker by Rodi

The Thinker

“Be very careful, then, how you live not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Ephesians 5:15-17

A story is told of a foolish young man who sought to prove to his friends that there was no God. He abused God greatly and dared Him to strike him dead in five minutes if he was indeed there. The friends waited an anxious five minutes, ten minutes, and then an hour and the man did not die. To some, the man had proved his case. However, one young man spoke up and said it proved that God had unlimited patience even for fools. What do you think? We cannot command God to bend to our will. We have to respond to his will and make use of the opportunities to repent. Let us use them wisely.

It is the will of God that we should be clear-headed, worship him, love others, respect life, be chaste, honest, generous, humble, and in all ways righteous. We know all that but often times choose to ignore it in pursuance of our own gratification. Ignorance is also a choice. Let us choose to be wise and take the first step, that of fearing God: knowing his will and might. As Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline”
