A Wasted Life

Epitaph

What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?” Mark 18:26 NIV

Death is a morbid subject and we would rather avoid it. However, “it has been proved conclusively, scientifically, that life is 100% fatal”. The Bible also says “It is appointed unto man once to die…” Hebrews 9:27. There is therefore no escape for this fate which can come suddenly at any time without warning.

The question is: are we wasting our gift of life or using it wisely?

A wasted life is life without love and kindness, without laughter, without sharing, without sympathy for others, without appreciation for the beauty of life, without brave deeds, a life enslaved to image and every trend, and thinking only about oneself. It is a life lived chasing worldly goods and desires which do not take into consideration Christ and his way. It is a wasted life with zero investment in the hereafter.

It is not enough to have lived and worked hard, but to have lived a good life serving others and God.

*****

“A life spent in constant labor is a life wasted, save a man be such a fool as to regard a fulsome obituary notice as ample reward.” George Jean Nathan
