A Legacy of Faith

Elephant and Young

“I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.” (2 Timothy 1:5 E.S.V)

Others in and outside our families are always watching the way we handle our experiences, good as well as bad. What we believe comes through in what we say and do and if we are truly faithful the character of God is revealed through us. They learn to trust God as we do.

Paul admired Timothy’s family for their apparent sincere faith. Timothy had been raised by a god-fearing mother- Eunice who had also been raised by a woman of faith- Lois. Faith therefore came easier for Timothy because he had already received the necessary instructions and seen its works as he grew up.

Do you have faith in God’s grace and goodness? Can your faith be commended like that of Lois and Eunice who were a living example of a faith filled family? As per Deuteronomy 6:7, do you diligently teach you children the Lord’s commands and “…talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise”? The value system that children acquire when they are young seldom departs from them. “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6.
