Do not Throw Your Precious Pearls to Dogs and Pigs

Killer Chihuahua

“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces” Matthew 7:6

There are those people who are aware that they do not know many things, they can be taught as they are willing to learn. But there are others who think that they are all wise and not willing to move from their position of ignorance. Indeed they are not even aware that they are ignorant. They are hard hearted. Of such is said, “Don’t argue with a fool, people might not note the difference” or put in another way, “Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself.” Proverbs 26:4. The pearl of wisdom in the Word of God to such people is mere foolishness and they will reject it.

The Jews Christ was addressing considered both dogs and pigs unclean. The Bible defines dogs as”... those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood (Revelation 22:15), and “mutilators of the flesh” Philippians 3:2. These in Paul’s time were the Judaizers who believed salvation alone was not complete without circumcision and other cultural observances. They were a stumbling block to the spread of Christianity to the Gentiles. As for pigs they are compared to “…a beautiful woman who shows no discretion” Proverbs 11:22, and those “… who will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute” 2 Peter 2:22

Those people that are violent, furious persecutors, blasphemous and hold fast to their culture or world trends are compared to dogs which will bite you. Others are scandalous and live impure lives and are compared to pigs that will drag you into their mud by slandering and back biting you. We need to seek the wisdom of discernment from the Lord in the way we conduct our relationships. Others can mislead us, drag us down or pollute us. Let us stay away from toxic people and avoid becoming “birds of a feather” with the dogs and pigs!
