The Joy of Harmonious Relationships

Flowers

How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! Psalm 133:1 N.L.T.

Many people say they love their families but they do not make the time to be with them. Many also say the cruelest things to those they claim to love; things they would not say to other people. It is no wonder then than many families are full of tensions and the members do not enjoy each others company.

Families are comprised of people who are often very different from one another. It therefore takes concerted efforts for them to connect and agree on how to live with each other in unity. It is important for families to intentionally spend a lot of quality time together to build strong bonds. It is important for each member to listen to the thoughts, insights and opinions of others so that each member feels valued and accepted.  It is also important for each member to treat others with respect. Families should find time to eat, play and perform various tasks together. Family worship goes a long way to keep a family harmonious. “The family that prays together stays together”

A family living in harmony can be compared to a combination of musical sounds which is very pleasing to the ear. They are a joy to behold. They are as precious as anointing oil, and refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon. To such, the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting. (Psalms 133:2-3)

Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible -- the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family. -Virginia Satir
