Mourning without Hope

Cross of flowers

When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene out of whom he had driven seven demons. She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept.” Mark 16:9-10 (NIV)

We grieve the death of a person because their love and support is taken from us. Sometimes our roles, identity and skills are connected so much with the person that we lost that adjusting to life without them seems daunting.

The disciples had left their former lives to become “fishers of men” but their leader Jesus died before they had grasped the real meaning of what they were required to do. Without him they had no hope for the Kingdom he had promised them. They were in utter despair until their hope was rekindled by Christ’s resurrection.

Are you still mourning and weeping? Christ has resurrected and all the power has been bestowed on him. Through him you have power to do great things. You do not have to carry your burdens alone. He is the everlasting hope who will never die and those who rely on him for love and support will never be disappointed.
