When you are scorned and despised by people

A Worm

“But I am a worm but not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people” Psalms 22:6 N.I.V

On the way to the cross, Jesus was greatly humiliated by the soldiers and the people. “Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?” Matthew 26:67-68, “They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said….When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots...Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads  and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God! ...” Matthew 27:27-44NIV.

Do you feel the sting of malice, contempt and rejection that makes you feel powerless and diminished like a defenseless worm?   Keep in mind that when others insult and humiliate you, you will only feel shame if in your own assessment you decide that your self image is reduced. If you feel secure about your own stature you will be less prone to feeling shame as a result of unjustified insults. You should be secure in the knowledge that God loves you as his wondrously and fearfully made child who was worth redeeming by the blood of his son. Do not give credibility to what others think of you, but what God thinks. Remember that no matter how severe the suffering you are going through Jesus suffered all for you and he understands completely. Keep your mind on the hope and victory God promises.
