Reaching out to others the way Jesus did at the Cross

Caring for Others

“And when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 1 Corinthians 11:24

How do you celebrate Easter. There were many poignant moments while Jesus was at the Cross: he forgave all who were putting him to death (Luke 23:34), he promised paradise to the criminal who showed sincere repentance and faith in Him (Luke 23:39-43), and he charged his disciple John with looking after his mother (John 19:25-27). These are some of the things we should consider when we celebrate Easter and the life of Jesus in this world.

As sinners, we all played a part in crucifying Jesus. He forgave us, not because we deserved it, but because of his mercy and grace. Let us extend forgiveness to others no matter what they have done to us as our show of love for Christ, and because God will not forgive those who do not forgive others (Matthew 6:14-15).

One of the criminals crucified together with Christ repented at the last moment of his life and was promised that he would be with Christ in paradise that very day. By this Jesus taught us there is no sin God does not forgive, and it is never too late to accept salvation. Let us reach out to the condemned and those who are sick so that they can know the goodness of the Lord before it is too late.

Jesus told his faithful disciple John who had kept by his side as others hid in fear, to take care of his mother. Jesus was mindful of his widowed mother and her needs. It was not going to be possible for him to be physically there for her any more and he knew John would not let her down. Are you ensuring the best care for your parents? Make sure that you look after them, and other needy people who all belong to Jesus.

When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free.
