Accountability to God and People

“In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes.” Judges 21:25 (NIV)

A lot of people refuse to learn from history. Like Israel at the time of judges; they act as they see fit and live for the moment. Each person is his own authority and acts on his opinions of right and wrong without any regard to God.  Each satisfies their personal desires with total disregard of others. Each values their independence more than dedication to God and his principles. Each becomes his own god. And for many, it takes suffering and adverse circumstances to remember to call out to God.

With no sense of accountability to God, and contempt for social laws which keep order, people become ruthless, tyrannical, corrupt and immoral as they aggressively pursue worldly treasures and pleasures: anything goes if it will provide what they want including trampling on those who are defenseless.  Responsibility and care for children, spouses, parents, neighbors and the country is forgotten. A lot of chaos and broken spirits abound.

In the end however, the truth of God based on the principles of The Word will stand. On the Day of Judgment we will all be held responsible for every action and word we speak. It is written: “‘as surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’” (Rom14:11)

Moral conduct includes every thing in which men are active and for which they are accountable. They are active in their desires, their affections, their designs, their intentions, and in every thing they say and do of choice; and for all these things they are accountable to God."
