The Powerful Weapons We Fight With

Hurricane

A hurricane

A Battle in the mind?

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (N.I.V)

The mind is a big battlefield of the good against the bad. It can be a stronghold of sin and Satan due to strong human passions and desires, and the prejudice and ignorance which hold God’s truth as ignorance.  We need to beware of intellectual and social influences that seek to discredit our faith in God’s power. We need to watch out for false prophets who speak with great eloquence, arrogance, and authority and are full of deceit. We need to watch out for Satan and his angels who are always on the prowl looking for somebody to devour: those that do not have their minds constantly focused on Christ and are therefore vulnerable and weak to temptations.

For a Christian, we do not use the weapons of the world; our earthly wisdom and strength to control our minds and the forces against us. The weapons we use are derived from God through prayer, faith, hope, love, humility, the Word, and the Holy Spirit within us. These, however humble they appear to some, can demolish arguments and pretensions that set up against the knowledge of God. It is only when we let our every thought be held captive and obedient to Christ that we defeat the power of the enemy.

At the end of the day truth is powerful and convincing.

"Our intelligence is imperfect, surely, and newly arisen; the ease with which it can be sweet-talked, overwhelmed, or subverted by other hardwired propensities -- sometimes themselves disguised as the cool light of reason -- is worrisome." Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan, 1992
