The Fragrance of Life

woman smelling a rose

“For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death and to the other the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?” 2 Corinthians 2:15-16

The word of God is a sweet fragrance to those who believe in Christ: it comforts, strengthens, and imparts hope. They receive the power of God that enables them to bear harsh treatment patiently and to always treat others with kindness. However, to those who are hard hearted and reject it, it has the smell of condemnation and death. It seeks to remove them from pursuing the worldly life they value and understand. They perish because the wisdom of the word is hidden from them, and seems to be foolishness in their reasoning.

Those who have been anointed and sealed with the Holy Spirit are the Fragrance of Life.  They are expected to lead others to Christ by living a life of constant ministry. This is a calling and not an option for all believers and one needs to be up to the task by keeping the eyes fixed on Christ and appropriating his character.

“I keep the telephone of my mind open to peace, harmony, health, love and abundance.  Then, whenever doubt, anxiety or fear, try to call me they keep getting a busy signal - and soon they'll forget my number.” ~ Edith Armstrong
