Choices Have Consequences

Woman eating an apple

The choice to eat healthy

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” Proverbs 3:5

There is a story of a middle aged woman who experienced a near death experience during surgery to treat an illness. She met God and asked him if she was going to die and He said,” No. You have forty two and a half more years to live.” She then decided to improve her image to prepare for these extra years. She had a face lift, a tummy tack, liposuction and many other surgeries. One day as she was crossing the road after a hair colour change and face makeover, she was hit by a bus and died instantly. When she saw God she asked for an explanation and he answered, “Sorry, I did not recognize you”. This story demonstrates that everything we do in this world has consequences.

The choices we make determine our future. The person we choose to marry will determine our future happiness. We cannot fail to sow and hope to reap. The food and exercise we take determine our health. Sin has consequences, but we are free to choose between worldly things and the righteousness of God.

We should always pray so that God guides our choices. We should not make our choices based only on our understanding. God’s wisdom transcends what humans perceive.

Remember this.  When people choose to withdraw far from a fire, the fire continues to give warmth, but they grow cold.  When people choose to withdraw far from light, the light continues to be bright in itself but they are in darkness.  This is also the case when people withdraw from God.
