Appreciating the Homemakers

Mother and Child

Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates [of the city]! Proverbs 31:31 (AMP)

The work of a homemaker is not easy. A good wife and mother makes sure that her family is well fed and healthy. She ensures that the house is clean, comfortable, warm and inviting. She encourages and supports her husband.  She brings up her children with tender love, instilling wisdom and discipline and the fear of the Lord. She comforts and nurses her family during times of sickness and daily troubles and she is on call every minute. In addition to this most homemakers also have other jobs outside the home to help augment the family income.

The Bible says that such a person is far more precious that jewels and her value is far above rubies and pearls (Proverbs 31:10). She is a great blessing. However, in the real world a homemaker is taken for granted and the value of her work diminished. She is rarely appreciated and is often abused and neglected. What do you owe the person who raised you or takes care of your basic comforts?  Give her of the fruit of her hands; the love, support, encouragement, and the respect she needs.
