Clearing the Clutter in Your Life

Cluttered house

“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.” Ephesians 4:30-31NIV

Over many years, people accumulate a lot of clutter in their houses. A cluttered house is very depressing. It is filled with many things you do not use or want. This makes it difficult to find the things you need and find space for new things. To feel comfortable you need to de-clutter.

Is your heart full of clutter? Are you grieving the Holy Spirit by leaving no room in your heart? Is your heart full of things that cannot coexist with the Spirit of God?

The people of Israel needed to remove all other people living in Canaan so that they could get space to occupy, and so that they could avoid the corrupting influence of their culture and religion that was based on idol worship. However, they disobeyed the Lord by not completely removing the pagans and He declared that they would they would “…become snares and traps for you, whips on your backs and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land, which the LORD your God has given you. Joshua 23:13.

You need to clear your timetable and make time for God; time to pray, to read the word of God, and to fellowship with others. You need to completely get rid of those things that cannot coexist with the Holy Spirit so that He can indwell in you; bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. You need to get rid of all the doubts, fears and unbelief. De- clutter and make room for the joy, love and hope that comes from the Lord.

We must love one another as God loves each one of us. To be able to love, we need a clean heart. Prayer is what gives us a clean heart. The fruit of prayer is a deepening of faith and the fruit of faith is love. The fruit of love is service, which is compassion in action. ~Mother Teresa
