When Adversity Knocks

A nice cup of tea

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2 NIV

During times of prosperity and good fortune, it is easy to say “God is good” and to help and pray for others who are less fortunate. But what do you do when adversity knocks on your own door?

The effect of adversity on people can be compared to the effect of boiling water on an egg, a carrot and tea leaves. The egg previously soft in the inside hardens, a carrot which was previously hard softens and tea leaves seep into the boiling water making it into an enjoyable drink. How do you respond? Does adversity harden your heart and make you bitter, soften and weaken you, or do you let God work with you in the circumstance that brought the pain to elevate you to a higher level of grace.

Commit to a life which causes others to see God’s Glory reflected in you instead of one where you conform to the pattern of the world; banishing the peace and hope Jesus has invested in you.

Little minds are tamed and subdued by misfortune, but great minds rise above them.
