Humble Work

working hard picking tea

A woman picking tea

"And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.” (Ruth 2:2 N.I.V)

After losing their husbands, Ruth and her mother in law Naomi did not have any means of support. Ruth decided that she could do any humble work that would give them sustenance, so she went out into the barley fields to collect any leftover grain after the harvesters.

Do you find doing some jobs too menial for you despite your hard times? Instead of sitting around waiting for good fortune to happen, take the initiative and work at whatever you can get without giving in to false pride. It could be the work God wants you to do or it could present a door to new opportunities. Ruth went out into the fields and God provided for her and her mother in law in a mighty way through their kinsman-redeemer: Boaz. Work faithfully and trust in the Lord.
