The Least of the Weakest

"But Lord," Gideon asked, "how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family. . ?”  Judges 6:15 NIV

Do you doubt your ability to serve the Lord effectively because you lack wealth, power, position, skills and experience? Gideon doubted how he could save Israel when he and his family lacked the resources thought necessary for the task. But the Lord said, ““I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.”  Gideon subsequently defeated the enemy using only 300 men selected from an army comprising of 22,000 men. This proved that it was not the strength of the people of Israel that saved them, but the power of the Lord.

Most of the apostles came from humble backgrounds, Simon Peter for example used to be a fisherman. When they got filled by the Holy Spirit, people were amazed by how these unschooled ordinary men acted with great power and courage.   All we need is for the Lord to be with us; leading our lives, for us to be victorious. The Lord himself provides the resources and abilities necessary for the tasks we have ahead of us. We should not depend on human wisdom, because God works in mysterious ways. Instead we should be humble, and depend totally on the power of God, to use our availability for his purpose and for his glory.
