Lesser Commandments?

man speaking on mobile phone

“Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven”. (Matthew 5:19 NIV)

Do you think there are some lesser commandments you are not obligated to obey? Do you give “simple” lies on your mobile phone that mislead others, for example as to your actual location?

Have you accepted that it is alright to give inducements to certain government officers because “everyone” does it? Do you believe that it is impossible to remain faithful to your spouse because of the way people are “wired” or how the spouse has turned out?

Do you profess Christ outwardly, but inside you are a hypocrite with no real allegiance to Him; drinking wine while preaching water?

Anybody who professes Christ is obligated to follow all the rules without exception and not relax them unilaterally. What we need to do is to pray for strength to resist and overcome all trials and temptations. We shall be judged by our actions and the example we show others, and also the attitude of our hearts.

Ideas have consequences.  Complex problems have simple, easy-to-understand wrong answers.  Intuitively obvious principles can represent false visions of the world.  And scientific or political ideologies built on them can be disastrous.
