When God Appears to Have Forsaken You

Lonely Woman

“Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.” (Psalm 31:3 NIV)

There are times when we seek God's inspiration and reassurance but He appears to be silent; we pray and read the bible but get no breakthrough.  This often happens when we are undergoing a big problem and we are tempted to feel that He has forsaken us.

God never leaves us. When we feel isolated from him, it could be that we are focusing too much on our feelings. Emotions are not reality and can be misleading; they can even be caused by our changing hormones. We need to trust God’s word more, whatever we are feeling.

Sometimes we may not hear the Lord because his answer may not be the one we want. We often want God to answer our prayers according to our expectations, which may not necessarily coincide with His will.

Other times we do not hear the Lord because our conscience is not clear. There are wrongs we may have willfully done or people we might not have forgiven which act to separate us from Him.

At other times we are not mature enough in our salvation to listen to that gentle whisper from the Lord. We may be expecting rumblings of thunder and not hearing the Lord through ordinary everyday things. With time as we continue seeking God, we get growing evidence of God working in our live and this knowledge forms the basis of trusting Him in future.

The Lord is our rock and fortress.  Let us continue seeking his leadership and guidance. He will not let us down, but will uphold us, for the glory and honor of His name.

*****

"It isn't as bad as you sometimes think it is. It all works out. Don't worry. I say that to myself every morning. It all works out in the end. Put your trust in God, and move forward with faith and confidence in the future. The Lord will not forsake us. He will not forsake us. If we will put our trust in Him, if we will pray to Him, if we will live worthy of His blessings, He will hear our prayers.” ~Gordon B. Hinckly
