The Flip Side of Christmas

Two sides of a coin

“But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless.  “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’(Matthew 22:11-13 NIV)

The Lord has called you to his table to celebrate his birth. He has also offered you for free, a garment of righteousness to wear for the occasion. Why are you paying no heed by continuing to celebrate him in your own way, and wearing your filthy rags of self righteousness to the occasion?

Many show a good outward face at Christmas while inwardly their feelings and intentions are very different. They are just going along with others because it is expected of them. They feel no genuine goodwill to all and use the occasion for self indulgence, commercial gain, deception and many ill intentions. The Lord is insulted by such hypocritical behavior. Do not forget that God is omniscient; he sees everything including what is in your heart. He says that he will cast away hypocrites to eternal damnation.

Do not be deceived by the portrayal of Jesus as an innocent non threatening baby. Do not forget that his life also includes a cross. Yes, Jesus came to offer you his joy and peace: but on God’s terms. Only those who accept his cleansing and live a life led by his teachings will enjoy it forever. Others will be cast out to eternal condemnation when Jesus comes again; this time not to offer his free salvation but to judge each according to how they have led their lives. Only the righteousness which comes from God will be able to speak for you.

Now may be the only time left for you to adorn yourself with his garment, for nobody knows the day or the hour of his coming.
