WINNING THE RACE

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”1 Corinthians 9:24

What makes a runner fit to win a prize? Only those determined to win, through intensive training and strict discipline have a chance of winning. A runner requires speed, strength and endurance. Those who are out of form and indulge in rich foods and a sedentary lifestyle have no chance of winning. A runner also requires shoes and clothes that do not hinder his progress. You cannot expect to win an Olympic medal in heavy clothing and working boots.

As we press on heavenward, we need to be perfected for the race through faith and perseverance, “…throwing off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles…” (Hebrews 12:1). We must be able to combat freshly lures of the world by being constantly watchful for temptations that can fell us and detract us from our faith.

What is it that hinders and entangles you? Is it that relationship, your desire for power and wealth, or fear of isolation? Isolate and throw out the baggage that encumbers you. You need to be light for the race.  Carry only Jesus in your heart for a chance to win the race and receive the crown.
