Singing for Health

Kambua Manundu

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. Psalm 95: 1- 2 (NIV)

Music is a wonderful way of worship. We praise God and thank him for all he has done for us and make our supplications to him. It helps us memorize God’s word so that we can recall it easily when we need his wisdom, strength, and encouragement.

Singing is also good for you. It has emotional, and psychological, and physical, benefits. It is fun, joyful and uplifting.  People feel better about themselves when they sing. Singing together as in church improves people’s sense of well being, social inclusion and their self esteem. You stop thinking about your pains and problems. It increases happiness and pleasure at times of celebration; and soothes in times of sorrow. Singing energizes. It also improves breathing, blood circulation, digestion, and reduces stress and anxiety. Musical instruments like the harp David played, pianos, guitars and so on, can greatly enhance the experience. It also helps if we relax and move our bodies in harmony with the music.

So, make a beautiful noise for the Lord and you will be thoroughly blessed.

*****

God sent his Singers upon earth, with songs of sadness and of mirth.
That they might touch the hearts of men, and bring them back to heaven again.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
