Beauty Everywhere

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”Ecclesiastes 3:11

When God made us, he was happy with his work and thought that it was good. We are all fearfully and wondrously made (Psalms 139:14). God also made everything else in the world and in the heavens. He thought it was good and therefore beautiful.

While society relies on outside beauty, God looks on the inside; our character. He said “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7. He looks at beauty in terms of our value and worth in achieving his purposes.

God’s standard is Jesus Christ. His beauty was witnessed by the disciples who saw the splendor shining on Jesus’ face during the Transfiguration. This reflected his perfect life full of love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

God molds us to be like Jesus for his glorification. We do this through prayer, reading and hearing his word, and practicing his principles; so that we grow deeper in faith and learn to wholly depend on God.

God also uses our experiences such as suffering to mold us.  “…..suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Romans 5:3-4. We become beautiful like refined gold which has passed through the fire, or sparkling diamonds which have been formed through intense pressure over many years.
