ENJOY YOUR LIFE

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8 (NIV)

There are many things in our lives that can steal our joy. These include our failure to achieve the career of our dreams; our deteriorating health; disappointments from our family, friends and colleagues; and the corruption, insecurity and inflation in our country.

Our perspective on life is what determines whether we are happy or miserable. If we always focus on the negative, we will have no peace in our souls. This will be reflected in our association with others and with God. Our words and actions will destroy the peace and serenity of others, and our fellowship with God will be constrained by our inability to see his goodness in our lives. If we are immobilized by our failures, weaknesses, and disappointments, our lives become a whirl of resentment, bitterness, fear, stress and anxiety.

If we choose to accept things we cannot change, we look for the silver lining and live a positive life filled with God’s wisdom and strength to persevere. We focus our thoughts on living a life full of righteousness. We focus on serving God and others with our talents and skills and exploit any opportunities that come our way. We focus on all the beauty of God’s creation which we are all free to enjoy. We focus on the goodness of the Lord and offer praises to him so that we can uplift others and draw them to him. We focus on the peace and joy that grows in us as we mature in Christ and we minimize the things of this world which are fleeting.
