Waiting Patiently

Birds do not sow or reap or store away in barns

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Psalms 37:7 NIV

Our earthly desires often cause us much stress and are the subject of many prayers. But we are asked to trust the Lord with our needs and wait patiently for him. If we are impatient, we can be open to envy, jealousy, corruption, and many other temptations.

Jesus reminds us that worry is pointless. He said “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Matthew 6:26-27.

We should not fret when we see many stock up on the treasures of this world, which moths can get at, or let the success of the wicked distract us from what is of value, mistakenly believing that prosperity, no matter how ill gotten shows God’s favour. What we need to do is live a righteous life and focus our desires on everlasting treasures. And let us not worry about the wicked schemes of evil people who seek to have their way in the world. The Lord knows and we will be vindicated in his own good time. We only need to wait upon the Lord, all the time cultivating the gift of patience, self control, long suffering and forgiveness: and locking in on his peace and joy that knows no understanding.

"Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come".~ Robert H. Schuller
