My Lamp

“You O Lord, keep my lamp burning: my God turns my darkness into light”. Psalm 18:28 NIV

We often get disappointed by our spouses, our children, our relatives, and friends. Sometimes everything that can go wrong goes wrong. Our relationships give us stress, our health suffers, our work does not go well and everything we read in the papers about our country and the world in general is depressing.

Yet there is always hope for a better tomorrow and if we look deeper, there is a lot to be thankful for today, no matter how bad our circumstances. Our faith in the Lord is the spark that keeps us going. No matter how low it is burning, if we keep it alive it will never let us down. It gives us knowledge, comfort and strength, and the joy and peace of the Lord.

Jesus as the light of the world shows us the right way to follow: the true way where we are not led by our earthly passions. We feel his blessings when the light on his face shines upon us.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are expected to be the light of the world so that we can lead people out of the darkness of their sinfulness. The power of the Holy Spirit gives us the power to witness and not hide our faith under the bushel. It helps us to perform good deeds that glorify him by showing the world his light that shines through us.

Let us hold up our lamps for lighting and ensure that there is no more darkness.
